Do Your Homework // Hailing from the fictional Balearic cliffs of Seadisco, France (where we assume Mamma Mia! was filmed), André Dulcan and Ludmilla Cassar, of the synthpop duo REFLEX, blend funk, basslines, 808 clap (danceable electronic hand clap sounds from an 808 machine, but also something you catch if you hook up with a Waikiki fille de joie) and a whole lot of other bouncy ‘80s sounds to make you sweat and smile.
In the Frenchies’ Wavering EP, Lud’s wilting French whispers float over Dulcan’s pulsing synthpop beats, making you feel like you’re dancing on a topless beach in a floppy hat and huge shades. Their show at Nextdoor is another in Honolulu’s recent and impressive trend in visiting must-see musicians.
Anton Glamb, DJ-Syn, Davey Shindig and our very own SuperCW open the night! Go support the events that support Chinatown; we could use more events like these.
